On Thursday, April 5, the POINT was presented with the Award of Excellence by the Planning Commission for it’s work with the Palm River 1st program, an initiative to inform, engage and educate residents about the community planning process underway in Palm River. Entering it’s 25th year, the Community Design awards honors design excellence in planning, historic preservation, affordable housing, environmental sensitivity, public participation, and architectural quality in building and development projects within Hillsborough County.

Natalie Clamp, Director of Neighborhood Planning accepted on the POINT’s behalf. “I’m thrilled to be accepting this award—none of this would be possible without the support of the Planning Commission’s Pedro Parra and of course, the residents. Their determination and active participation in this planning process has truly made a difference!”

Part of the uniqueness of the Palm River 1st initiative is that it strives both to enhance relationships with residents and neighborhood organizations and to expand participation in the planning process by providing information to residents, property owners, neighborhood groups and developers.

The Community Plan, set to be adopted in September 2007 will be a milestone for the Palm River area. Advisory Committee members comprised of residents and businesses have been diligently attending meetings since last year; however, more participation is needed! Currently, monthly meetings are held by the Planning Commission and are open to all residents and business owners.

Call the POINT’s Natalie Clamp at 813-628-9179 and find out how YOU can get involved today.
