Greater Palm River POINT, CDC (The POINT), has once again led the community’s charge to bring major improvements to Greater Palm River. On Wednesday October 21, 2005 Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve $6.5 million to fund the installation of water and sewer lines along Causeway Blvd. in the Palm River community.
“Bringing water to Causeway Blvd. is the first step in turning around years of disinvestment in Palm River. It will be the catalyst for the area’s revitalization.” said, Liz Gutierrez, Executive Director of “The POINT.” The decision by the County Commissioners to provide the funding for the Causeway Blvd. project (out of the County’s $346 million Community Investment Tax) comes as a result of residents and businesses coming together to speak in a unified voice about the critical needs and opportunities for Greater Palm River.
In 2006, the Florida Department of Transportation will begin a road widening project along Causeway Blvd. creating a 4-lane road that will connect Brandon to the City of Tampa. Commissioner Thomas Scott’s, leadership ensured that the opportunity to install water services during this roadway improvement project was not lost. We are encouraged by the funding of this project and will continue to work with our residents, local community partners, the City of Tampa and Board of County Commissioners to make certain that water to Causeway Blvd. becomes a reality.
Our Turn on the Water! Campaign is part of our Palm River 1st initiative which is informing, educating and engaging residents in the upcoming 2006 community planning process. For more information about this Campaign contact the POINT office. |
