Turn on the Water Campaign
The
issue of providing water and sewer in Palm River has been an issue for the
community and has been a focus of POINT operations for over 10 years.
The Causeway Blvd. road improvement project set to begin in May 2007 by the
Florida Department of Transportation will now include the installation of water
and sewer lines. An investment by the Hillsborough County Board of County
Commissioners of $6.5Million through the Hillsborough County Community
Investment Tax that would not have been considered if it were not for the active
and consistent participation of hundreds of Palm River residents involved
through this process.
The POINT initiated discussions with Senators Tom Lee and Les Miller to assist
in the lobbying for water and sewer on Causeway Boulevard. On September 21st,
2005 the POINT attended the BOCC Community Investment Tax (CIT) meetings to
speak and show support for Commissioner Thomas Scott’s proposal to set aside
$6.5 Million for water and sewer for Causeway Boulevard.
The motion passed unanimously and since then, the POINT has met with Mayor Pam
Iorio and her staff to review short-term and long-term impact(s) the
installation of water and sewer will have on the Community.
Although the Palm River 1st Initiative is not the central purpose of the
campaign, we do have the opportunity to present ourselves, our campaign and the
planning process to the county at-large. The positive results of the partnership
include the development of a true relationship with the County.
